
What we are trying to do
Te Hononga ki ngā Tūpuna Trust was established in 2008 to:
- promote te reo Māori as an official language of Aotearoa by encouraging speaking, reading, writing and listening in te reo
- promote te reo Māori as an expression of cultural identity and pride in Aotearoa
- foster te reo Māori and Māori knowledge as a way of bridging cultural differences
- encourage all cultures to participate in learning te reo Māori
- provide a safe, stimulating environment in which to encourage the desire to learn te reo Māori
- develop, maintain, distribute and encourage the use of a variety of resources in order to foster the desire to speak, read, write in te reo Māori
- organise activities that facilitate the learning of te reo Māori and Māori knowledge
- promote and encourage, through the medium of te reo Māori, participation in activities in the wider community
